The moment when you’re not quite sure how things turned out so good, or how you had enough money to fix what was broken, or meet the person who told you exactly what you needed to hear. We’ve all said it, and we’ve all believed it. “There is no way that was just a coincidence!” The weird excited mysterious feeling absorbs your body and you start wondering how on earth did this moment happen?
This feeling happened to me one afternoon after someone knocked on my door. I usually expect a vacuum salesperson, or someone trying to sell me a security system. The same reason why we need to invest in a peephole. Most people just answer their door normally, but I’m the ninja mom when I hear someone knocking on my door. I hide the kids in a room and tell them to use their quiet voices. I tiptoe across my house trying not to make the kids giggle, or the dogs bark. Bending way below the visibility of being seen, I slowly creep up to the window where I can only see a slim view of my front porch. This time was different. I wasn’t alone. My husband wasn’t at his typical 8-5 job. He was at home seeking his dream to be his own boss in our office.
We had three months of expenses to prepare us for for the online freelancing business. God had guided us to this moment, to take the leap, and try this opportunity we discovered. In the midst of finances we were debating on selling our van. To my husband, it was only an accessory we didn’t need, but to me it was a backup up vehicle if anything happened to our car in the middle of diving into our journey. We prayed over and over about what to do, but no clear answer was given. When my husband opened the door I was ready to hear a sales pitch from across the house. The common line of, “ Would you like to get a room shampooed for free today?” But no, that wasn’t what I heard.
The guy was wanting to know if we would sell our van. There was no for sale sign displayed on our big red van or any big flashing sign saying, “Come check out our van for sale!” He bravely came up to our door and asked! As we both were so intrigued by the situation we both started shouting out, “How much would you buy it for!!?” I wasn’t so quick to my demand until he pointed out how the van always sits in our driveway never being used. What a clear reason to sell it to someone who will use it, and help our situation as well! When we wrote down his number and closed the door I was amused on how God answered our prayer. How often does someone sell a vehicle by just waiting on someone to ring their doorbell with an offer? Coincidence, I don’t think so.
God’s always perfect in his timing. When we get discouraged about how our life is going, or how he doesn’t give a clear answer to our demanding prayers, he’s working in the background for his plan for us. Planting seeds of faith, voices of encouragement, and whispers of purpose. We have the free will to believe in him, or to believe in the chance of coincidence of random things happening in our favor. Think about all those moments in your life where you couldn’t explain how things gracefully fell into place like they did. What do you believe? Coincidence or God?
Ecclesiastes 3:11 English Standard Version (ESV)-“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”
